Linea Bridge is the official bridge infrastructure connecting Ethereum (Layer 1) with the Linea network (Layer 2). It enables users to transfer ETH and ERC-20 tokens securely between chains using cryptographic proofs.
When you initiate a transfer, Linea Bridge locks your assets on the source chain and mints equivalent tokens on the destination chain. The reverse process (withdrawals) burns the bridged tokens and releases the original assets, with finality guaranteed by Linea's ZK-proof system.
There are multiple ways to bridge via Linea Bridge:
- Bridge Aggregator — finds the fastest available route across third-party bridges.
- Native Bridge — the official Linea bridge with no additional fees.
- Centralized Exchanges — withdraw directly to Linea from supported CEXs.
- Buy — purchase crypto with fiat and receive it on Linea directly.
Linea Bridge is compatible with all major Web3 wallets. The following wallets are fully supported:
- MetaMask — the most widely used Ethereum wallet, with native Linea support built in.
- WalletConnect — connects any mobile wallet that supports the WalletConnect protocol.
- Coinbase Wallet — browser extension and mobile app.
- Rainbow, Trust Wallet, Zerion — and other WalletConnect-compatible wallets.
To use Linea Bridge, your wallet must be set to either Ethereum Mainnet (for sending from L1) or the Linea network (for sending from L2). You can add the Linea network to MetaMask automatically through the bridge interface.
Adding Linea to MetaMask is straightforward. You can do it in two ways:
- Automatic: Visit the Linea Bridge bridge interface and click "Connect Wallet". If your wallet does not already have Linea configured, the site will prompt you to add it automatically with a single click.
- Manual: Open MetaMask → Settings → Networks → Add Network, and enter the following details:
- Network Name: Linea Mainnet
- RPC URL: https://rpc.linea.build
- Chain ID: 59144
- Currency Symbol: ETH
- Block Explorer: https://lineascan.build
Once added, you can switch between Ethereum Mainnet and Linea freely within your wallet.
Linea Bridge supports a growing list of tokens. Currently you can bridge:
- ETH — native Ether, the primary asset on both Ethereum and Linea.
- ERC-20 tokens — including USDC, USDT, DAI, WBTC, LINK, UNI, and many more.
- Wrapped tokens — WETH and other wrapped assets.
The full and most up-to-date list of supported tokens is available directly in the Linea Bridge bridge interface under the token selection dropdown. New tokens are added regularly as the Linea ecosystem grows.
Note that not all tokens available on Ethereum are automatically bridgeable. A token must have a corresponding canonical or third-party bridge deployment on Linea to appear in the list.
Transfer times depend on the direction and method used:
- Ethereum → Linea (deposits): Typically 20–30 minutes. Funds are credited on Linea once sufficient Ethereum block confirmations are reached and the Linea sequencer processes the message.
- Linea → Ethereum (withdrawals via Native Bridge): Approximately 8–32 hours. This longer duration is due to the ZK-proof finalization process required to guarantee security on Ethereum.
- Bridge Aggregator routes: Can be faster (sometimes under 5 minutes) since they use liquidity-based bridges that don't require waiting for ZK proof finality.
Always check the estimated time shown in the Linea Bridge interface before confirming your transaction. If your transfer is taking longer than expected, you can track it using the transaction hash on Lineascan.
Linea Bridge's Native Bridge charges no additional protocol fees on top of standard gas costs. You only pay the Ethereum network gas fee when bridging from L1 to Linea, and a minimal Linea gas fee when bridging from L2 to L1.
Here is a breakdown of costs:
- Gas fees (Ethereum → Linea): Paid in ETH on the Ethereum network. Varies with network congestion.
- Gas fees (Linea → Ethereum): Paid in ETH on Linea. These are very low compared to Ethereum mainnet.
- Bridge Aggregator: Third-party bridges used via the aggregator may charge their own fees (typically 0.05%–0.3%).
- No Linea Bridge protocol fee: The native bridge itself takes 0%.
Gas fees are always displayed before you confirm a transaction, so you can review the total cost in advance.
Linea Bridge's Native Bridge is the most secure bridging option available for Linea, as it inherits Ethereum's security guarantees through ZK (Zero-Knowledge) proofs.
Key security properties of Linea Bridge include:
- ZK-proof finality: All withdrawals from Linea to Ethereum are protected by cryptographic zero-knowledge proofs, meaning assets can only be released when the proof is verified on Ethereum mainnet.
- Non-custodial: Linea Bridge never takes custody of your funds. Smart contracts hold assets temporarily, but they are always controlled by cryptographic rules — not by any individual or company.
- Audited contracts: The bridge smart contracts have been independently audited by leading blockchain security firms.
- Bug Bounty Program: Linea runs an active bug bounty program via Immunefi to incentivize responsible disclosure of vulnerabilities.
To stay safe, always access Linea Bridge only through the official domain and never share your seed phrase or private keys with anyone.
If your transfer appears stuck or funds haven't arrived, follow these steps:
- Check the transaction on Lineascan: Copy your transaction hash from your wallet history and look it up on lineascan.build. A successful on-chain transaction is the first confirmation that your bridge request was submitted correctly.
- Wait for the expected time window: Deposits (L1→L2) take 20–30 minutes. Withdrawals (L2→L1) via the Native Bridge can take up to 32 hours. Do not assume a transfer is lost if it is within this window.
- Check the transaction history in Linea Bridge: Visit the bridge interface and connect your wallet. The transaction history tab shows the status of all your pending and completed bridges.
- Claim your withdrawal manually: For L2→L1 withdrawals, after the ZK proof is finalized you may need to manually claim your funds in the Linea Bridge interface. Navigate to the "Transactions" section and look for a "Claim" button.
- Contact support: If none of the above resolves your issue, reach out through the official Linea Help Center or the Linea Discord community.
Linea Bridge's Native Bridge operates between Ethereum Mainnet and Linea Mainnet. These are the two core networks.
Through the Bridge Aggregator, Linea Bridge can route transfers from additional chains, including:
- Arbitrum One
- Optimism
- Polygon (PoS)
- BNB Smart Chain
- Avalanche C-Chain
- Base
The Bridge Aggregator sources liquidity from third-party bridges (such as Jumper, Li.Fi, and others) to find the best route. The available chains and routes may change over time as new integrations are added.
For developers, Linea also supports a Sepolia testnet bridge for testing purposes before deploying to mainnet.
The Linea Bridge Native Bridge does not enforce hard minimum transfer amounts. However, there are a few practical considerations:
- Minimum practical amount: You need enough ETH to cover gas fees on the source network. Sending a very small amount (e.g. less than the gas cost) is technically possible but uneconomical.
- No enforced maximum: There are no hard upper limits on the Native Bridge. Large transfers are supported.
- Bridge Aggregator limits: Third-party bridges used by the aggregator may have their own minimum and maximum transfer limits, which are displayed in the interface before you confirm.
During early growth phases, Linea may implement temporary rate limits on the native bridge as a security precaution. Any active limits are always communicated in advance through official Linea channels and shown within the Linea Bridge interface.
Once you have bridged assets to Linea using Linea Bridge, you can access a rapidly growing ecosystem of decentralized applications at a fraction of Ethereum mainnet costs. Key categories include:
- DeFi: Swap tokens, provide liquidity, and earn yield on DEXs like Lynex, EchoDEX, and Horizondex.
- Lending & Borrowing: Use platforms like LayerBank and Aave (Linea deployment) to lend or borrow assets.
- NFTs: Mint, trade, and collect NFTs on Linea with near-zero gas fees.
- Gaming & Social: Participate in onchain games and social apps built natively on Linea.
- Linea Rewards: Earn points and rewards by participating in Linea's ecosystem programs through the Linea Hub.
Explore all available apps in the Linea Hub App directory. The Linea Bridge bridge is your gateway into this growing ecosystem.
Linea is a ZK-EVM rollup — a Layer 2 solution for Ethereum that uses zero-knowledge proofs to batch and verify transactions off-chain while posting proofs to Ethereum mainnet. Key differentiators include:
- Type 2 ZK-EVM: Linea is designed to be fully compatible with existing Ethereum smart contracts and tooling, meaning developers can deploy Solidity code without modifications.
- Built by Consensys: The team behind MetaMask and Infura, providing deep integration with the most widely used Ethereum infrastructure.
- Prover technology: Linea uses a lattice-based prover designed for performance and long-term quantum resistance.
- Native MetaMask integration: Linea is featured natively in MetaMask, giving it access to MetaMask's vast user base directly.
- Decentralization roadmap: Linea has a public roadmap toward progressive decentralization through the Linea Consortium and Association.
